Year 8 Parents' Evening - Thursday 9 February 2012

5.00pm to 8.00pm - Meridian Building

As you know, we very much value the opportunities that Parents’ Evenings provide to work with you in the best interests of your son/daughter. If you are unable to attend the evening we may contact you to confirm that you are comfortable with his/her progress at this important time. You may, of course, choose to contact the form tutor or subject teacher directly yourself if you have concerns.

The meeting will be held in the Meridian Building and a map showing the location of Departments will be issued at the door as you enter the building.  Miss Mitchell will be based in the Meridian Hall with the Science Department and the Heads of House will be based in the Library.  Form Tutors will be in departmental rooms in the Meridian Building.

Year 8 students have received one set of grades with comments, an end of year Target (TAG) and their Current Working Grade for each subject, together with an ‘Attitude to Learning’ grade and should receive another set this half term in advance of the Parents’ Evening.   You may find it useful to bring these with you on the evening.

Year 12 Parents' Evening - Thursday 23 February 2012

5.00pm to 8.00pm - Meridian Building

The evening is an opportunity to discover what progress has been made so far in light of the recent effort and achievement grades, and how your daughter/son can prepare effectively for the forthcoming summer examinations.

We consider that Parents’ Evenings are a very important part of our work with you and are committed to offering all parents the same opportunities on such occasions.

Students are requested to make appointments with the staff who teach them.  The length of each meeting is scheduled for five minutes but please contact the subject teacher if you feel that discussion needs longer and we will try to accommodate this.  We like students to accompany their parents so that there is a dialogue between students, teachers and parents regarding Sixth Form work.  If you would also like an appointment with any of the Sixth Form team or your daughter/son’s form tutor, please ask them to make an appointment on your behalf.

Year 12 Exeter University Residential Trip

Monday 9 July to Friday 13 July 2012

Following the success of last year’s first flexible curriculum week for students in Years 7 – 10, we felt that it was important to provide an exciting opportunity for Sixth Form students to gain valuable life experiences beyond their normal curriculum. This residential conference is for students in Year 12 who are following A level courses, and is an opportunity to experience life at a university at a time when decisions about the future are being made.

A varied programme of activities will be provided which includes visits to places of local interest, talks by university staff and other motivational speakers together with two half-days of outdoor pursuits.  Accommodation is on full board terms in one of Exeter University's Halls of Residence, all rooms being single with en-suite facilities.  Travel will be by minibus. A university has been selected as a base in order to provide our students with an opportunity to experience life at an institution of higher education.

Although primarily aimed at students intending to continue their studies at university, we would like to emphasise that this conference is intended to be sufficiently varied to be of interest to all A level sixth formers, irrespective of their current plans for the future.  The trip is taking place during the school’s ‘Flexible Curriculum’ week, when the timetable is collapsed.

During the same week  there is also a Biology Field Trip and it is essential that Biology students attend the field trip as it is course related.
